Prelude
As always, Gearhart has many gardens and cottages to see in between the tour gardens, beginning with this house right by where we parked:
As before, the Trail’s End Art Center was the ticket sales location.
In talking with the ticket seller, I learned that although the poster and program say this was the sixth annual Gardens by the Sea Tour, the 2012 tour had been the first in many years. I was so relieved to hear that I had not been missing a good garden tour every year since 2009! I still wonder if the memorable tour we attended in 2008 was the third Gearhart tour…
We drove off in search of the first garden, ignoring the signage that led to nearby garden six. Unlike last year, the gardens were not in walking distance of each other unless one wanted to walk three miles. Our GPS took us off on a tangent, but the reward was that we saw several good gardens along our somewhat lost route to garden one. Photos mostly taken from the car as we were in a great big hurry to begin touring, having (as usual) arrived over an hour after the start time for a tour that officially ended at three.
You will see that a great many geranium Rozannes have been planted in Gearhart!
And now…on to garden number one!
[…] Back in Ilwaco, I walked down to the Saturday Market for the weekly Discover Ilwaco photo session. I must admit I had gotten burned out on the weekly session because I was so involved in garden tour prep and touring. Allan had filled in for me a couple of Saturdays and Tom Hornbuckle had saved the day with some photos on the week when both Allan and I were off touring Gearhart gardens. […]
