Garden Bloggers Fling, Portland
garden touring postscript
On the way home, we saw the most fun and fascinating sight from the bus at a bar down the street a few blocks from our hotel; Allan happened to be on the side of the bus where he could get some photos. Oh, how I miss going dancing at LBGT bars, and oh, how I sometimes miss being young and able to dance till 2 AM.
It was Superhero Saturday in Portland! We later learned from garden blogger Kristin‘s spouse that there had been a big fun run during the day featuring superheros of all ages.
The contigent from the Embers Bar was pouring out onto the street and into the town.
That all made me very happy.
We had had a dream that Saturday evening we would make it to Powells Books, the famously large Portland Bookstore to which Allan had never been. I was much too tired, and I don’t think Allan had a huge amount of energy left either. So we just went to the Portland Marriott restaurant to have a not delicious dinner. (Food burnt, not nicely charred, just burnt so one had to scrape the burnt parts off if one did not have the energy to send it back.)
The nice server comped us two desserts when she saw how much blackened food we had set aside, and we enjoyed them in the bar with Kristin and her spouse.
Next: Five more Bloggers Fling gardens await us on Sunday!
Hehe, I was wondering if you were going to post pictures of your dinners. What a bummer that they were burnt. Did you try the Italian restaurant across the street? I maybe should have mentioned that I haven’t been impressed with the little restaurant in that Marriott when we’ve stayed there. OK maybe for breakfast, but not much more. Such a shame that walking to the food trucks was probably too much for you with your leg problems.

Yes, food trucks might as well have been on the moon that evening, especially since we did not get around to dinner till eight ish I suppose. If we ever stay there again (which I doubt!), we will go across the street or (I hope) to the food trucks.

Mystery solved! We wondered why we saw so many superheroes when our bus passed the bar as well. Also saw some walking around later in the day. Sorry that your meal wasn’t very good. We tried the Italian place across the street and it was pretty good.

That’s what Alison said, too! One bad meal is no big deal especially when we were just too darn lazy to leave the hotel. 😉 plus we had the upside of sitting with Kristin and her fella.

The superheros reminded me of the time we pulled up to a stoplight with my visiting in-laws in the car and the naked bike riders passed in front of us.

With all the amazing restaurants within blocks of the Marriott I am so sorry you didn’t get to sample some really fun fine cuisine! My hometown knows how to cook!

I could hardly walk and was too pooped to deal with getting cab for just a couple of blocks. Saw Saucebox nearby! So yeah, phooey.
