in which we do all the jobs but Long Beach and Ilwaco
The Depot Restaurant
The Red Barn Arena
Diane’s garden
The Basket Case Greenhouse
We stopped to see what was left of the end of season sale and I bought a few variegated oregano and thyme for the Ilwaco post office edge.
Fred and Nancy are retiring right after this end of season sale…and that is another “letting go” that is happening this year. They have buyers who will take over the business. I am fighting the “It’ll never be the same!” feeling.
Marilyn’s garden
There is a lot of plant snobbery about plain ol’ shasta daisies. Well. I like ’em, and that is my truth.
While we were away garden touring, Marilyn’s daughter sent me this:
And I don’t think I have posted these yet:
Klipsan Beach Cottages
Anchorage Cottages
A ceanothus that had been slowly dying had finally completely plotzed, so Allan cut it down. I recently read that it is not unusual for ceanothus to die off like this.
Now the one on the other end of the center courtyard garden a tall healthy ceanothus throws the garden off balance…drat.
Since the Hardy Plant Society garden tour weekend, I have had a nagging feeling that I need a new client who is a plant nut, with a big budget, and no need for hardscaping, and who would just let me play with planting new plants. I realized today that that client is ME.
At home, Allan found this unusual carrot in a package and thought it should be recorded:
Pictures don’t do justice to your spectacular Stipa gigantia at the Red Barn. Makes me faint every time I drive by.

Thank you, Steve. I’m thrilled it has that effect even though it sounds a bit dangerous!

Woops, that’s Stipa gigantea (spell check keeps wanting ‘gigabytes’) 🙂

Allan is right, you can never have too many curious carrot shots. That eryngium is stunning.

Love Helenium ‘Autumn Lollipop’. I may have to add that one next year. It reminds me of Acmella oleracea only taller and with a ruffly skirt.

It looked boring at first and then when that little skirt appeared, it was just darling.

P.S. Also it was droopy at first…every one of the plants…and then it straightened up.
