Still making double posts to try to catch up. I tried to do four days in one post, but Allan provided too many good photos, and it became too long, even for this blog!

Ilwaco Post Office
I was sure a human had pulled up one of my new rudbeckias at the post office. Allan said maybe a deer. I said deer don’t eat rudbeckias. He said the baby deer maybe don’t know that. So…maybe not finger blight, maybe just a fawn going puh-tooey. I still think finger blightus interruptus, though. It was still fresh enough to replant.
Long Beach
We did the watering of the planters (me) and street trees (Allan). Allan had the unpleasant experience of finding a large dead rodent in one of the tree faucet holes (I will spare you the photo) and a wasp in another.
Watering went quickly for once and we decided to reward ourselves with a rare lunch out at one of our favourite cafés, The Kabob Cottage. We usually miss out on her food because of lack of time, as she is only open for lunch or a very early dinner.
After lunch, we addressed a shocking amount of new growth of the ever annoying bindweed in the park adjacent to the restaurant.
I noticed something in the park that might be exciting. Between the so-invasive common orange crocosmia (monbretia) that we did not plant, and the moderately annoyingly invasive Crocosmia ‘Lucifer’, is a NEW crocosmia, short like the orange one but a beautiful red that is darker than ‘Lucifer’. Could the two have crossed?
Ilwaco
While Allan watered the Ilwaco planters and street trees, I weeded the south end of the boatyard and watered. I was not done watering when Allan was, so he helped me finish.

The Depot Restaurant
The Red Barn Arena
Diane’s garden
The Planter Box
I bought more bamboo poles to paint, and on the way to Surfside I bought some more spray paint colors at Jack’s (best spray paint collection around).
Marilyn’s garden
The morning after I wrote this entry, I learned from Marilyn’s daughter Nancy (of the Depot Restaurant) that Marilyn passed away the next day. She was in her 90s, and had been fading for some time. We will continue to care for the garden until it has a new owner, and we are planning to adopt Marilyn’s orange cat named Scooter. Scooter loved this garden, and ours should feel familiar to him.
Klipsan Beach Cottages
The Anchorage Cottages
Jo’s garden
Reminder: Jo’s is for sale, and we hope a gardener will buy it.
Seven jobs accomplished in seven hours! And at home, I watered while Allan cut my new bamboo poles in half.
Ginger’s Garden Diaries
from my mother’s garden diaries of two decades ago
1997 (age 73):
August 1: HOT Did some watering. Started some perennial seeds after it was shady in the greenhouse. The violet leaves have been rotting. These are the ones I planted using the liquid rooting stuff. I’ll go back to rooting the leaves in water.
1998 (age 74):
August 3: NOTE: All this week I worked outside about 5 hours each day and then was too tired to write in this journal so I’ll try to write what I accomplished even though it might not be on the right day.
You need more thorny and poisonous plants to discourage your plant jackers. They are scoundrels of the deepest hue.

Didn’t have time to comment yesterday. Can’t believe you took care of 7 gardens in 7 hours. Wow! Look forward to seeing the painted bamboo poles.
