The J’s
We began with an intensive pruning of the blackberries that are coming over into the J’s yard. Our neighbour Jeff, two doors down, called out that we had “a short commute”, because the J’s is just kitty corner across the street.
To get started, Allan had to ruin this spider’s day.
It is a challenge to deal with the blackberries since the source is the other side of the hedge.
Mike’s garden
Next, we went a few blocks east to work on Mayor Mike’s garden
I had some Crocosmia ‘Lucifer’ corms and some elephant garlic to drop off at the Beachdog office for Keith to plant.

Jo’s garden
We are doing a twice a month tidying here till the house sale closes.
Long Beach
Although the days are shorter now, with the sun setting soon after 7 PM, we had time to groom the gardens in Veterans Field.
I had meant to pull some cosmos from the welcome sign today. The cold wind made it so unappealing that we left it for tomorrow.

I had the last of three dental appointments and enjoyed this painting by our friend Jean Nitzel.
Long Beach
Meanwhile, Allan tackled a section of Crocosmia ‘Lucifer’ in Coulter Park.
That kept him busy! When we rejoined forces, we pulled some of the cosmos out of the Long Beach welcome sign garden.
We groomed the Long Beach planters, giving them perhaps their last watering of the season. We had left them unwatered since last Wednesday resulting in only a few plants being a tad bit stressed. The city crew continues to water the Basket Case Greenhouse’s hanging baskets every day and the baskets still garner many compliments and questions regarding how they are planted and cared for.
The Geranium ‘Rozanne’ in the planters needs its skirt of brown leaves clipped off now.
We pulled the spent Crocosmia just east of Coulter Park; there is going to be an art show annex in this building next week. It’s not exactly in the park….but it sure needed doing.
On the way home, we rewarded ourselves with tasty take out food from Streetside Tacos in Seaview.
After dining at home, Allan went back out to water the Ilwaco planters, probably for the last time this season.
While filling up the water trailer tank at the boatyard, he found some digging had been done in a deeply sunken water meter spot.
We are in the slack work time between summer’s end and bulb and fall clean up season. I used to always schedule a big one-off project during late Sept-early October but have not done so for a couple of years. One-off projects became discouraging because any garden bed that we create but don’t maintain tends to return to nature. I prefer to stick with my usual jobs. Although we should get going on some fall projects (like that wire vine planter), I have to admit that I am enjoying the easy going schedule.

Sept 27: Today I finally straightened up the greenhouse!! I moved the short light from below up above the middle shelf. I moved pots onto the top shelf and sorted a lot of stuff—some I’ll take to the shop.
Sept 28: 1:00-4:00 I cleaned up the path and put some plants down in PRFB-S. Washed a lot of pots left from my potting in shop last week. I was going to start cutting branches up but it was too late to start. Maybe next week.

Sept 28: I hooked up the new indoor hose and it works! I even watered both back and front porch baskets and clear out to picnic table! I hooked up Filter Queen to blow off the needles etc from the brown tarp. I’ll use it to cover the wood box. Then I blew away a lot of the dirt from garage floor.
This sentence from your post made me laugh, “To get started Allan had to ruin this spider’s day.” Yep. Hopefully, Ms. Spider can rebuild her house elsewhere.
