Todd came by with our check for the bulbs he had acquired from my order. He presented me with a bulb of Narcissus ‘Gigantic Star’, because one that I had acquired from HIS order had been soft. I had just figured out that Allan had I had finished the planting of 3,189 bulbs yesterday. Today, Allan will plant that Gigantic Star at the post office garden, making the total 3,190 for round one of bulbing.
I thought we had planted way fewer than last year. However, last year’s total was 3,374 (including round two!) so we did not plant much less after all.
Today was the day to install the Corridor of Spooky Plants for Halloween.
Allan reminded me to go to the J’s to weed the front garden. That worked out well because it gave him time to finish the horizontal supports.
at the J’s:
I was glad to get back home to start the Halloween decorating.
Every time I walked by, I fished a couple more pots out of the wet wheelbarrow.
It is Skooter’s first Halloween here. He took an interest in the corridor project.
I gardened till dusk, adding a row of Euonymus ‘Green Spire’ to the rose arbor in the back garden (where I hope they won’t be too shaded by Paul’s Himalayan Musk rose).
I have been mildly concerned that Ilwaco might let down the side on Halloween this year. Last year, fewer houses than usual were decorated. We took a drive at dusk for reassurance, and we found it. Lots of houses had pumpkins, a welcome sign for trick or treaters, and a few had made a bigger effort.
Now I am confident that Spruce and Lake Streets are ready for the 400 or so trick or treaters that we expect to see on Halloween.
We drove to the marina at almost dark to recycle cardboard bulb boxes.
That was a scenic trip to accomplish a small chore.

Oct 29: 1:00-5:45 I emptied the baskets. I think I kept the colors marked better than last year. I brought the rest of the small enough wood up to the porch. There are several too long pieces in the boxes. I brought the onions up to shop.

Oct 29: Again all afternoon planting bulbs etc. When I quit all the bulbs were in except about 400 set aside to plant in various pots and containers. I started digging dahlias but only dug two when I was so tired I quit—too tired to eat so I snacked all night.

Oct 29: Sunny Warm in the sun, cool in the shade. 12:00-4:00 I planted over 100 tulip bulbs—in the Tam area, Pink Rhody W, UDFB and patio bed (25 mixed Peony Tulips). I found more dahlia bulbs and I dug the 4 O’ Clock bulbs. It’s supposed to get down to 29 degrees tonight so I must get the garden faucets opened.
