Port of Ilwaco
We made an excursion to Purly Shell Fiber Arts to get some eggs from a friend.

By the way, you can shop online at our wonderful local yarn store.
Allan took some photos of our port gardens.

As a Brit-o-Phile, I should write “kerbside” and perhaps this year, I shall.

At home
We’d had a delivery from Chewy.com. The cattens find the wrapping paper as entertaining as the contents.

I spent the afternoon writing this and the previous blog posts, inspired by readers who say it makes their lives better. Politically, this week is extra stressful, so I hope this helps.
I then returned to a beautifully written memoir that was recommended to me by Our Kathleen.
From a terrible experience, she has written one of the best and most inspirational memoirs I’ve ever read.

Wednesday: This was written on Tuesday evening before today’s breaking news that gave me enormous relief: the trifecta of blue with the two Democrats winning the Georgia runoff. I did not expect that and am thrilled. And also the news that, while not surprising, gave me great horror and made me miss a good gardening day because I could not tear myself away from the news: an attempted coup and insurrection in Washington DC. I did expect chaos because of the violent “MAGA” posts on social media (see @parlertakes on Twitter), but I didn’t think they would get inside the building. I haven’t watched daytime news since 9-11 but I can’t tear myself away from watching this.
I appreciated the soothing images of Scottish countryside on the Tootlepedal blog this afternoon. It’s a good thing to keep putting out images of countryside, birds, trees, moss, gardens during this time to soothe our frayed nerves.
It is good to see news from Ilwaco in my inbox, too. Gardening, cats, dogs, wildlife and life on the shore always welcome. The ship boneyard reminded me of Scottish folksinger Archie Fisher’s song, “The Final Trawl”
I am sure you have heard news of the problems down here in Salem, Oregon.

I, too, thought it was good to see news from Ilwaca. Yesterday was a horror of day, and like you we couldn’t pull ourselves away from the television as we watched events unfold in real time. A time for courage and fortitude in so many ways.

Lavinia, I read the piece in the Statesman Journal. Oh, gosh! All over the country.

I enjoy your blog so much. It gives me comfort, too. I especially appreciate the names of books and TV shows that you watch.

Thank you so much. I have a big book list post coming up tomorrow. We’ve started watching Jack Whitehall…or is it Whitehouse, hmm,…Travels With My Father and are finding it a usually funny alternative to the news….something that distracts. Midnight Diner is a little melancholy and yesterday we really needed something cheerful.

I too could not tear myself away from the news yesterday. I started by watching the process of the certification thinking it would be historic, little did I know as I witnessed shouting in the room and the beginning of the chaos what would follow. all over the country. Stress, disbelief and tearful emotion all day. Finally got myself out and worked in the gardens… horticultural therapy at it’s best!

Thank you for the kind words, Even if I wanted to put out disturbing pictures of rioting and mayhem, the fact that we are in lockdown would stop me so I shouldn’t get too much credit for concentrating on the immediately surrounding country. 🙂

I agree with Laurie, It was a horror of a day. My nerves were completely frazzled. Also, I was stunned by the lack of planning for security.

I am still stunned…as I am sure we all are…about the details that keep emerging.
