at home

For the second time this week, I woke up early (for me), this time to watch on telly the inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. I wept with joy even more than I thought I would.
At noon, I went out and did some sorting of debris, raking, and ivy pulling in the willow grove. Yesterday and today:
ivy progress…
There is debris that I look forward to digging out soon, some old bricks and some who knows what.
It is pleasant to have room in the grove to walk.

Lots of ivy and holly roots are still in there but can be controlled if I keep up on it a few times a year. I know it can be done because ten years ago, the Bogsy Wood was just as impenetrable as the willows grove was last week. This is what the Bogsy Wood looked like in December 2010:

And now it’s like this ( last week, on a similarly wet day):

Allan had been adding one more shelf to the garage annex:

And he had noticed the hebe and primrose combination in his garden:

At four o clock, we had a campfire lunch with celebratory champagne served in mugs.

Here is what we are celebrating today, all accomplished with much forethought and planning while I was pulling ivy and roasting hot dogs. Kindness, goodness, intelligence, equity and hope. And relief that has my shoulders so relaxed that I realize they’ve been hunched up for four years. (Thanks to HuffPo for the wording):

What a happy, happy day! And what a splendid way to celebrate. I feel as though this country was (and probably still is) on a razor’s edge with the election. But for now, at least, we came through it, and as you illustrated, what a change! It has been a heck of a January, but now we have hope.

Then suspense on many things remains, but there is hope and my shoulders have remained lower.

Although uncertainty remains on a lot of things, my state of mind is so much calmer now. Just looking at the former policies sends chills down my spine. It seemed that every day brought some new environmental damaging rule or someone’s rights being taken away and their lives disrupted. A scary time that I hope never comes again.

What fun to have property to expand and improve! You have done a great job! I was consumed by the inauguration and we also celebrated with champagne! I think Inauguration Day , and Election Day should be holidays! Such important days for all citizens to be able to participate in!
Lets hope progress can begin!

I so agree that Election Day should be a holiday, especially in states where people have to stand in line to vote.

Definitely worth a celebration in my view.

My husband and I celebrated the Inauguraiton much the same way you and Allan did – with some ‘bubbly’ ~ but on our deck as we don’t yet have a garden (only raised bed planters for vegetables on the sand) ~ and made crab beignets.

Yum, beignets. Do you live at a beach? I always wish I knew more about regular commenters who don’t have blogs, but it seems nosy to ask in this public of a forum!

Barry and I live in Ocean Park, near 280th St. We had a vacant lot and had a house built on it for our retirement nest (finished in July 2019). When they built, they had to scrape down to sand and then backfilled with sand from the beach….so we have ZERO soil, save for the few raised beds we put in for vegetable growing. We hope to add a planting area with compost this Spring for perennials that will stand up to our wind-driven rains and salt-laden mists! I am trying to work up a plant list! I have been to your plant sales twice, and truly appreciate your beautiful gardens, as well as what you tend at the port there in Ilwaco 🙂
Pee Ess: If you and Allan want to try the crab beignet recipe, let me know how I can share it with you. I am on Facebook and share most of my recipes there.

I have such terrible face blindness, please re introduce yourself when we meet again. I have known of beach side gardeners who bring kelp back for compost each time they visit the beach. Hey, if you put the crab beignets recipe here, I will post it in the blog. Also, you could friend me on fb if you can stand my political posts :-). I made a private news group where I post most of the political articles that interest me but some still appear on my timeline.
