I had hoped to spend the day rereading the Joan Aiken novel, Foul Matter, in one sitting today. It was not to be.
Port of Ilwaco
The weather was cold and clear. We doggedly and determinedly got through the workday.
We started cutting back grasses and perennials at the west end of the port. By Salt Hotel:

West end by Skywater Gallery and Freedom Market pot shop, where some messy gauras were the worst looking plants:

These two westernmost beds are quite weedy, but our priority today was cutting back. It is still a bit too cold to make weeding at all pleasant. We will return for a second visit.

We met a cute dog.

I checked on the port office south side garden bed.

The tide was extra low.

After we had weeded and trimmed the Time Enough Books garden (forgetting to take any photos there), Allan cut back some bronze sedges in a small bed on the north side of the port office, while I sheared more santolinas.

We moved on past beds we had already tidied and finished the day with the curbside gardens by At the Helm Hotel.

When we got home, the scent of the Azara microphylla filled the driveway.

I had suggested on Facebook that any friend or acquaintance walking by should have a good sniff of it. Ilwaco friend Janet sent me a photo of herself doing exactly that.

At least you met a cute dog.

That’s a lovely name, Skywater. Looks like the 1970s Gurgi would be at home among those bronze sedges! 🙂
