At home
Mary and Denny, former clients (when they managed Klipsan Beach Cottages) and still beloved friends, came to visit with their five month old Havanese puppy, Charlie. What a thrill! I’d been longing to meet him. The Havanese breed is the National dog of Cuba, smart and bright and often were circus dogs! Charlie is simply adorable.

He got quite wet in the very wet garden, where the water is still standing deep in the swales. He wanted to explore everything and took an accidental partial dip in one of the ponds.

After they departed, Allan started to build a gate to replace an old door in the Bogsy Wood garden fence that had rotted away after ten years.

I puttered around the garden…

…and managed to harvest what is possibly my only spring harvest of broad beans.

Both you and Allan do beautiful work. I love the door he is working on.
And a handsome pup! Charlie is a sweetheart.

I had a heart attack a couple of weeks ago, and have been busy getting my bearings back. Glad to hear all is going well up there. It is still cool an wet in my part of Oregon, which is good going into the summer season.

Oh my gosh, Lavinia, I hope it was mild. I have several friends including my ex, who recovered completely…and also my friend Susie, whose garden we do. That’s a shocker. I will check your blog and see if you’ve told more of what happened.

Charlie is indeed so adorable! Alan did nice work on the gate. Your broad beans look fresh and delicious. Love the blossoms in the garden, especially the peonies.

Thanks! Allan said, Do we have any old thing kicking around that could be put into this gate? 🙂

Thanks. I always tell myself I will stake the peonies. I even have special peony hoops that belonged to my mom. Maybe when we are fully retired, I will.

What a brilliant idea using chair backs to form part of the new gate! We have been away for awhile (a cold and soggy camping road trip) and now catching up on past blog entries. Sorry to hear that you have relinquished your Port garden job. Did they demolish part of a garden bed in construction? That would certainly have me throwing in the towel, what with your very heavy garden workload. I know, all will be revealed in your blog, in a couple of days.
Mid June – and still have yet to water here. Loving the freedom from the hose drag – although opportunities for a cuppa in the sun’s early summer warmth on the patio have been few and far between.

The reason will be in tomorrow’s blog. It is a payment issue. You can also betcha I’d quit if a garden got demolished without us being warned!

Love the sweet dog and the gate. Recycling is the rage apparently in the UK, but those of us who recycle just do it because we want to and not because it’s a trend. The last photo of the swale is so pretty.

Thanks! Yes, people often give us unsittable metal chairs that we try to reuse one way or another.
