Mostly at home
Rose ‘Paul’s Himalayan Musk’ is at its peak. I had thought of having an open garden. Fortunately, I had been feeling too reclusive. I don’t think it would have been enjoyable for anyone because of the blasting hot weather.

My plan had been to work in the shade in the predicted heat, shaping and putting some river rocks in the deep ditch. I tried!

But it was so hot, in the high 80s, that I felt dizzy even in the shade and retreated indoors, where I read half of a good local mystery, King Tide by Cathy Cruikshank.
In the late afternoon, Allan went to the post office….

…and to the library to pick up a book…

..and stopped by Black Lake to look at folks cooling off.

In the evening, I tried again to add my river rocks. Even with Skooter’s help…

….I felt all wobbly with the heat. I looked for a nearby shovel and found that raccoons (I hope not a bear) had ripped apart a newly planted area in the willow grove, even unto moving rocks around and ripping up a cardboard underlay to the path.

I fixed it, but will it last?
Allan came out to view the mess and then assisted in digging and the placement of some of the rocks in the deep ditch. I think that despite the uneven ground, I will be able to work on refining it on a cloudy day when the hot sun isn’t making flashing lights through the trees.

The new house that I can see from Bogsy Wood and willow grove, just past the Norwood back lawn, has been painted a pleasing grey.

In the slightly cooler evening, Allan mowed Alicia’s large and still damp back lawn.

I need to get a cat again. I forgot how helpful they are around the house and garden! 🙂 Go, Skooter! But how freaky about something tearing apart your garden area. I hope the rest of your garden is safe!

Thanks! It has only been a problem in that little area.

Wow, the damage seems big for a racoon. I hope it doesn’t happen again.

The combination of very hot weather and a soggy lawn seems to strange to me. We have been cool and dry here for some time.

It’s not something I’ve ever experienced before.

Allium schumbertii and Allium christophii that you gave me looked . . . sort of like that a while ago. It took a while for them to dry out. I brought them in when they pulled out freely, and they still continued to dry. They are folded up and in jars now, so that they seed stay contained.
