With the weather warm and sunny, I had high hopes for getting two jobs plus some of Long Beach bulbs planted today. As we left for work, Skooter enjoyed the sun on the front porch.

The Planter Box
We stopped at the garden center to buy some mulch for our first job and to see if Teresa had any species narcissi. I was pleased she had Tête-à-tête, one that I quite like, and got some for the hillside garden. I felt I hadn’t ordered enough different kinds of narcissi and wished I had ordered some Thalia. What was I thinking back in September??

Katie’s garden
We only go to Katie’s two or three times a year. I’m slowly making friends with Katie’s cat via cupboard love.

We tidied up the garden and planted bulbs in the two small beds and in the porch containers.

Diane’s garden
We planted bulbs of pastel hue in the roadside, septic vault and container gardens. Holly the dog was not home and missed her last biscuit of the year from us. Only a severe freeze would bring us back for one more clean up in 2022.

The Red Barn
We weren’t planting bulbs here and had already given the small garden as much autumn clean up as it will get. We just had a bill to put in the drop box and were almost leaving when Cosmo appeared to say goodbye till 2023. He will always choose petting over treats if given a choice; what a love!

Long Beach
We surpassed our expectations by getting bulbs planted with just six planters and two barrels and maybe some bulbs for parks left to do.

At home
I had ordered some plants from ForestFarm on Sunday during an irresistible sale. They arrived! More on this later when I have some time off work to plant them. Allan unpacked them for me because I was still working on spreadsheets every evening.

Some excitement ensued when Zinc slipped out the front door. It almost seemed like she wouldn’t come back. Then came yowling in the dark when the orange cat from across the street picked a fight (he was in our garden as usual). Allan found her clinging to the outside of the Catio, and it took two of us to pry her off the wire mesh. She caterwauled in terror as he carried her inside and then took comfort in a newly arrived shipment of mail order kibble from Chewy.

Tomorrow is the last good day before rain. Perhaps we will be able to finish the bulbing.
The work board tonight:

Poor Zinc! After all, she was in her own yard. Glad she could find some comfort in good food.

I think the orange cat is named Willy. He and the Catio cats have words after dark through the wire mesh of the front Catio. It must have been a shock to be actually face to face with him.

Sheesh, my bulbs are very late, too. You give me hope that they will still arrive.

Gosh, I feel lucky now. I called Van Engelen in mid November and found out they were still on order, at least, and they said they were working as hard as possible to get the shipments out. Perhaps it is supply chain problems, and maybe understaffing?

Mine are from Brecks which I had decided not to use again. They had exchanged an order without permission (substituting expensive irises with different ones). To their credit, they issued me a credit when I complained. I placed another order using the credit last July, the one I am now waiting for. Fortunately I kept good records of what and when I ordered. No updates or tracking. Sigh.

That looks like enough kibble to last for quite a bit. 🙂
