Exciting gardening activities continued with a weeding of the middle back garden bed. It took many hours, to my surprise, because of edging plants, dianthus and santolina and Persicaria ‘Dimity’, that were so strangled with grass that they had to be dug up with the Root Slayer and carefully weeded. Some extras will get potted for the plant sale. I am thinking of it as the phantom plant sale…or the imaginary one.
Befores and afters:
Some tulips:
At the end of the day, racing sunset, Allan decided to bring out the big mirror we got from Tony and Scott. It was interesting to see how he moved it, on a small wooden boat handcart.
Jazmin helped, which made me nervous. For a short while, Allan thought of putting it in front of the trellises, but it was more secure behind even though one loses a bit of the reflective surface. He got it done just as the sun set.
I expect that it will only last a year or two. But how delightful while it lasts.
The home work list is a little bit shorter now.

In pandemic news…
Social distancing may have cut Oregon cases by 70%
And a very clear notice from the Seaside, Oregon police:
And a Shocking story about Georgia beaches being reopened against the will of the residents.
Speaking of beaches, it looks like the whole town of Cannon Beach, Oregon, has declared itself closed. According to local paper the Seaside Signal, this sign is the real deal.
Dave Hamm’s notice is priceless. Couldn’t be any clearer, could it? I had to read it aloud to my husband. As we would say in Maine, that is some notice. 😉 Also, great job with the weeding. And the mirror is indeed delightful.

I’m glad you liked the notice. It’s wonderful when authorities have a sense of humor.

Even when the wood frame around a mirror falls apart, the mirror will last a long time. I have many in my garden, and all have held up fine over the years.
In North Vanouver they closed the mountain hiking trails. People still hiked. They then closed the parking lots. People parked near the lots. Now they are shutting down the actual roads and checking locals only ID for people to get to their houses.

Wow! I admire the powers that be for being determined about this. Until we really shut down for a period of time, I either won’t get to go back to work OR will have to work at risk from the public

Well I guess they could be any clearer…
THE SEASIDE BEACH IS CLOSED!
Hope you are all doing well.. my garden all the better for our housebound state.. still pulling sod and clearing but have a few corners staged and planted. Amazed at how much work you do in a day! Thank you for another wonderful blog! Give me a shout out if you ever north of cranberry!

If I do ever get north of cranberry, I will bring you some plants. If you ever come to Freedom Market, you could pick them up with proper social distancing.

Dave Ham for Governor. Or maybe, President? Someone who is not afraid to clarify a decision! And while his post shows a sense of humour, I sense frustration too.
Stay well, Skylar

Agreed. Having a sense of humor during frustration is a skill I lack.

Well, if I live in Los Gatos, is Seaside Beach closed?

The beaches being closed–and all of Cannon Beach, seems so surreal. We are all going to be so happy and relieved when this virus goes away. It is going to be a long wait for the vaccine. On a happier note, your tulips are stunning! The mirror is an interesting new addition. It will be fun to see the reflections.

I feel it will be a long time till normal pleasant beach vacations and restaurant meals resume. Makes me sad. We are applying for a small business grant. Very small. Based on the probably incorrect assumption that the stay at home will end on May 4th n
