At home
After a morning and early afternoon frittered away with scattered, unfocused reading, I had a visit from Susie, who had brought us a few groceries. Afterwards, I dared to go outside…much easier now with the grab bar that Allan installed on the garage steps.
Danielle from Purly Shell Fiber Arts brought us a huge bag of wool the other day….
…and I am pleased to report that I pulled a layer out of the bag and placed into into compost bin one, and was able to pull some brown clippings from bin two down on top of it. I was well chuffed. I also managed to water all my pots and the greenhouse and then to take a walk around the garden, all with a borrowed four prong cane instead of a walker. I even deadheaded some lilies with a mighty twist of my wrist. I hadn’t thought I’d get that far so I hadn’t carried any clippers. The only problem I had was feeling shaky. Not weak, just shaky.
Here is some if what I saw in the garden.
On Willows Loop West:
On Rose Loop around the center bed:
On the other side of the fire circle, on Willows Loop East, an unhappy pink turtlehead always wants extra water. It is going to get moved this autumn. I really mean it this time.
Now up the other side of Rozanne Loop. Maybe I should just call it Center Loop for clarity. Could call it Rose Loop, and there are roses all around it.
Allan loaded up his boat to go boating tomorrow. I suggested it, as he needs a break from on call caregiving. Our Kathleen will visit me in the afternoon to make sure I haven’t become incapacitated. I don’t think tomorrow will be the day to try more garden projects. That’s okay. I started a new garden book, Tokachi Millennium Forest, which could keep me busy all day.
While filling a couple of water jugs from a rain barrel, Allan found a wee frog.
That is one very COOL peacock. It’s just awesome. The flowers, especially the Thomas Graham rose from a cutting, as well as many others and the sweet wee frog give your garden a strong cottage garden vibe. Wish I had as many flowers blooming in September. Glad you were able to get out for a bit.

Your garden is always so inspiring! And you are out and about in it—so happy you’re having a relatively good day! I just drool over Night Owl, but am coming around to the idea that my own garden needs a bit more pizzazz than trees and roses…have been moderately successful with Hyssop and Astrantia but light years away from your creation. My granddaughter saw the windy evening video you posted and says we must go and see that garden in person, perhaps some day… Take care of yourself!!

I hope you can visit. It might be a little wilder and unkempt than I like or have liked. I am trying to come to terms with maybe having to let go of perfection for awhile, I hope not permanently because I do like perfection.

Wild is not necessarily unkempt, and shaggy chic is a style I can definitely relate to!
