Today I hoped to paddle the shore of the Columbia River upstream from Astoria through the Eagle Sanctuary. The nearest launch site is the John Day Boat Ramp. Before I launched for my entire paddle today, the first part of which is in yesterday’s post, I drove to visit the Twilight Eagle Sanctuary to take a look see.
Highway 30 is windy and slow east of Astoria, Oregon. Where it straightens beyond the John Day County Park, glimpses of the Columbia River can be seen over nearby marshes and channels. I turned north at Burnside Loop Road.
