At home
I got just a little bit ahead of where Allan was working on the east side of the front garden and managed to cut a lot of vines and branches to clear the way. He was busy planing down a post so that it would fit in the hole in the concrete edge.
A lot of the fortune’s worth of wood has been used by now and by the time you read this, the path will be clear, fate willing!
I cut a Ceanothus to the ground to make working in the area easier for Allan. It was C. ‘Victoria’, not a rare cultivar, and was in the way of an old post removal and the future horizontal pieces and wire. It might have been one of the first plants I installed there. If it wants to come back from its stump, it is welcome. From our side:
Allan caught up with my by the time I started clipping from our neighbor’s side. I forgot to mention the non stop rain and wind.
Having planed yesterday’s frustrating post, Allan installed it into its slot easily, and the next and last old post came put without too much fuss, and the new one fit nicely.
By then, I had moved out of the way, first hauling chopped debris to the trailer and then potting up some plants in the garage, including some Jasminum nudiflorum, some shasta daisies (I can’t even remember from where) and a Libertia grandiflora that divided into eleven pieces. I went in at almost dusk and saw from the catio window that Allan had both posts in.
Skooter, who is an outdoorsman only in good weather, spent the day in dry comfort.
Allan points out that every day of the fence building story is much like the last, and I said the whole point is that this is what gardening life is like. But the next post that I post won’t be about posts, because all the posts for the front fence are now installed.
Wonderful concluding paragraph and true about many things.

You haven’t lost me. I’m still interested in the day-to-day updates on the fence.

It is nice to see Skooter napping indoors. It is going to be fun to see the fence completed–it will be a whole new look!
