at home
Scott and Tony and their dog Rudy came over so that Tony could get his belated birthday present. Tony took himself on a garden tour, with many lovely photos, as follows. I appreciate his visits because he notices things and never fails to explore to the furthest corners. Allan had just mowed and edged our lawn.
Tony’s birthday gift was The Jewel Box Garden by Thomas Hobbs, one of my favourite garden writers.

I love seeing our garden through Tony’s eyes.
Wow, Tony did an amazing job capturing the beauty of you garden Skyer. Semi retirement seems to agree with you and your garden!

Many years ago, Thomas Hobbs used to have a online garden blog which made for enjoyable reading. Such a tragedy the wrack and ruin of his jewel box garden, when the new owner left the house and garden abandoned and neglected.
His Southlands garden centre is an enjoyable outing. The plant stock is always kept in perfect condition, and never suffers from missed watering, bedraggled foliage, and the carnage of being knocked together on tables.
As always your garden radiates under Tony’s photographic caress.

Oh, I wondered if he had completely sold that amazing house. How very sad it was not bought by someone who loved it, it was so gorgeous.
I can imagine that he dotes on every plant that he sells. I read he is going to have a new book at some point. His previous two were so lovely, I am excited for a third one.
